Tarot Card Meanings: Understanding Strength
The Strength card was originally named Fortitude and referred to "moderation in attitudes toward pain and danger, with neither being avoided at all costs, nor actively wanted." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strength_%28Tarot_card%29) I recently started taking a martial art with a friend. It isn't the first time I've taken a martial art, but the particular martial art I'm taking has a more lethal reputation than most. The experience sparked an interesting conversation with a friend, a lesson in the Strength card.

Tarot Card Reading for Beginners
What are tarot cards? Tarot is a pack of 78 cards. Tarot cards have four suits corresponding to the suits of conventional playing cards. Like conventional playing cards, each suit has cards ace to ten and four face cards for a total of 14 cards. These suit cards are called the 'minor arcana'. Unlike conventional playing cards, tarot cards have an additional 21-card trump suit and a single card known as the Fool. These cards are called the 'major arcana'. Tarot reading is an ancient tool of divination--an attempt to foretell the future or uncover hidden knowledge about life.

Tarot Card Meanings: the Hanged Man (Turn Your World Upside Down)
The Hanged Man is perhaps the most esoteric card in the tarot deck. There is something profoundly unsettling about the card. The Man looks meditative, but his position uncomfortable and reminiscent, of course, of hanging and death. EyeTarot.com defines the Hanged Man as follows: Surrender, Sacrifice, Reversal • An emotional surrender and/or opening up • Letting go of control • Sacrificing something: putting others' interests before one's own • A reversal of priorities or attitude

The Wheel of Fortune: Is Fate in your hands?
The Wheel of Fortune card is one of my favorite in the Major Arcana. In Carl Orff's symphonic masterpiece Carmina Burana, the opening 'Oh Fortuna' captures the stone cold-bitchiness of the Wheel of Fortune, where one's fate can seemingly change for the better or worse, without rational explanation: O Fortune, you are changeable waxing and waning; life oppresses then soothes as fancy takes it; poverty and power it melts them like ice. Fate - monstrous and empty, you whirling wheel, you are malevolent, well-being is vai EyeTarot defines the card in the following way:

Art of the Virtual Tarot Reading
While tarot readings have a long history, the concept of the 'virtual tarot reading' is relatively recent. Tarot card owners often develop a personal connection with their physical tarot decks. Some do not even allow others to touch their personal decks in order to preserve the psychic connection they have cultivated with their particular deck. Traditionalists might wonder if a virtual tarot reading can 'work' as well as a physical deck in capturing the intent of the seeker and the energy of the reader.

The Magician: Tarot Meaning
The Magician, a card in the Major Arcana, is another powerful card in the realm of the Tarot. I've been meditating alot on this card lately as its energy speaks to many of the struggles I see friends and family experiencing. Any time one isn't able to actualize the results one seeks in their life, a lack of the Magician energy can said to be at work. EyeTarot.com defines the Magician card as relating to... * Taking concrete action, decisivenessr

Tarot Card Meanings: The Hermit (AKA, "Of Man Caves and Men")
The imagery depicted in the Rider-Waite tarot card of 'The Hermit' is iconic. A gray hooded figure chooses a solitary path to find himself, to seek answers. It strikes me that the figure is male, as The Hermit energy the imagery represents brings to mind a common theme I've noticed in men over the years.

The Tower Card: Should you worry?
So... you are new to tarot and your readings are going great. Then, one day, the Tower card turns up in your reading. It's a pretty ominous looking card. Not quite as ominous as the Devil or Death cards, but still, menacing enough to send a shiver down your spine and perhaps lead to fretting. What could it mean?
