The onion metaphor has often been used to describe the process of delving into a person’s psyche. Layers are removed to reveal what is beneath, toward the core. The metaphor reflects the many layers that we have inside us. Most who use this metaphor suggest that peeling away the layers of the onion is the complete story. The assumption seems to be that the awareness that happens as the layers of the onion are peeled away changes people. Is it the tears? Is it some magical healing factor that happens by exposing what was hidden to the light of day?

Our senses are our connection to the world. They are the sum and substance of all individual and shared experience. They are necessary to our survival and effectiveness. They are also tools to be utilized to enhance our appreciation of all that surrounds us! One of the necessary steps to abundance is appreciation (see my previous article http://www.selfgrowth.com/articles/4_practices_necessary_to_achieve_abundance_in_your_life.html). Part of how we appreciate our experience is by paying attention to our sensory experience.

Everything we do is goal directed, whether we are pursuing success, accomplishment, satisfaction, service, love, acceptance, or simply comfort and the absence of pain. Goals are always with us, whether consciously acknowledged or not. We seek them, achieve them, fail at them, savor victory, suffer disappointment, or retool to pursue a new choice. We each have a relationship with, or a way of relating to, our goals. Indeed our relationship to any particular goal we have may be different at different times.

As we enter a New Year it is customary and valuable to reflect on where you have been and on where you are going. It is time consider what you want improved in your life, what you want to be different, and what you wish to change. In that spirit many of us make New Year’s resolutions. But the word "resolution" has some unconscious implications that may not be helpful in actually realizing change. In my view "re-solutioning" is a more useful term to direct you toward a useful path for change. I’ll discuss the reasons for this in this article.

I believe that most people know more than they acknowledge or utilize effectively in living their lives. This latent wisdom has been alluded to, partially, by various notions including “trust your gut” and “pay attention to your intuition.” It also appears in those moments when you just automatically respond to a situation successfully and later wonder, “How did I do that?” The fact is we often hide our latent wisdom from ourselves. We do not use the resources, skills, talents, and good judgment that we have learned in living our lives. We ignore our latent wisdom.

Abundance is a hot topic these days. In one form or another it has always been around, though the way it is articulated changes. Justifiably so, plenty, prosperity, and a life full of good things is something we all want. We all want to manifest abundance in our personal worlds. Abundance is as much an attitude as it is something objectively identifiable. It is a feeling, a sense, a comfortableness with who we are and what we have. Paradoxically the sense of abundance often precedes getting the things we want. Abundance eludes the desperate and dissatisfied.

Sometimes goals and resolutions are empty and disembodied from our spirit and soul. No wonder they fail! Often they are not authentic; they are not true to who we are. If a goal is not something you fundamentally want, if it is not a decision made by your authentic self, you will be fighting yourself every step of the way; perhaps not consciously, but certainly on the levels of your deeper and higher self!

In Sometimes We Run... Part 1 (see article here: http://www.selfgrowth.com/articles/sometimes_we_run_your_relationship_with_your_goals_part_1 ) two of the primary ways that we run in relationship to our goals were addressed, running away from and running towards our goals. There are several more dynamics of our relationship to our goals. This article is about one of the most powerful and effective ways to achieve your goals! Sometimes we run toward our goals while at the same time running away from something else...

Favorite Quotes & Thoughts from Richard Liotta

To name just a few quotes I have enjoyed lately:

"It's never too late to become the person you might have been." - George Elliot

“The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.” –Dee Hock.

“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.”-Marcel Proust.

“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving.” -Albert Einstein
