Practice Blessings As you bless your food, your dreams, your mission, your purpose and your goals, your life magically improves wherever you are. (It's not really magic.) If you were God wouldn't you love to give things to someone who appreciated everything you did for them? I believe so. So when things get really tough, find something to be grateful for and bless it. After 9/11, I, like much of America, felt shock and complete upheaval. It didn't seem like there was much to bless.

The 5 Best Hero Lessons Terri Marie © 2009 I wrote a column called “Heroes Among Us” for the Orange County Register, Sun Post News for years. The stories focused on people who did heroic things, so that we may all learn from them. Every year I wrap up with the best hero lessons. From well over 100 hero lessons each year, the following are the top five. Several lessons apply to many of the heroes. Since I believe we all have the capability to live a great life, a life that is heroic, these are things that you, too, can do. You can create a better world around you.

I've worked with a lot of master champions. Some have mastered a sport. Some had a skill like ballet. Some have mastered a musical talent or instrument but some of them master everything. They do that by mastering life. They become enlightened. To be in the presence of such a being is to me the epitome of life. There is nothing more exciting, calming, rewarding, clarifying, and intriguing than to talk with a master. You are talking on a direct line to God. When you first look for the love in anyone, you are really looking for God.

THIS YEAR… I am going to live as if I were dancing on rosesr I will treat everyday as a miracle. I will claim each small step toward my goals as the giant victory it is. I will find millions of things to be grateful forr I will tell people I love them as often as I can. If a day goes by and I haven't said, "I love you," I will look in the mirror and say it wholeheartedly to myselfr I will smile every time I remember and I will remember a lot. I may even put up happy face stickers. I will laugh at something funny everyday to keep my tickle bone in shaper

I've found that when things seemed hard - for a good portion of my life - it was because I hadn't hit my stride yet. I hadn't believed in myself enough to let go of situations, people and places that weren't for my highest good. BUT they actually were. Hard things were necessary rungs on the spiritual ladder to a higher version of myself. They showed me areas in my life where I wasn't being good, loving and kind to myself. So these challenges were great teachers.

(I wrote this letter while I was writing my hero columns to a boy who had just been badly burned and was very discouraged.) Dear Precious One, My friend told me what happened to you. That must have really hurt and I'm sure you have been wondering why all this has happened to you. When something that feels so awful happens, it feels like we were singled out and we can start to feel bad about ourselves. But sometimes we are singled out in a much different way by God. Imagine how God must see this.

When you wash your brain, you don’t do it with water. You do it with thoughts and emotions. The more powerful and “clean” the thoughts, the cleaner your brain. I believe it is necessary to clean our brains just as we do our clothes and our homes. Without a sparkling brain, but a dusty old one, we can’t react, think, or create in the best ways. Brainwashing refers to getting the brain overloaded or so stressed that the person actually began to believe something other than what they previously thought was real.
