I'm currently working as Public Relations, Director on the corporate communications team for a large biotech company called MedImmune. It has a pipeline of more than 120 drug candidates, perhaps its most well known product is the intra-nasal flu vaccine called FluMist®.
Prior to joining the MedImmune team I worked at an ophthalmic company called Bausch & Lomb within its commercial product division for four years. I supported its contact lens unit; the over-the-counter lens solutions and eye vitamin categories; the surgical group for both cataract and LASIK procedures as well as the company's pharmaceutical group - it was like working for five different companies but provided me with invaluable experience.
Before the ophthalmic industry "caught my eye," I worked in the telecommunications industry for five years during the Internet boom as corporate communications director for two Fortune 500 companies, dealing with dozens of crisis situations, union unrest and a major merger – followed by divestitures of all business units. I was also responsible for internal communications for the company as well.
I started off my career as a print and broadcast journalist for 10 years, working at several radio stations, two TV stations and two local newspapers. I got out of the media to start a family with my wife – we now have two daughters ages eight and six respectively and I also earned my MBA. All up-and-in, I have more than 20+ years communications experience. Beyond that, I’m a marathon runner, I just finished my first non-fiction book titled "Question of Faith: a Simple Question Toward Ultimate Truth" and I blog daily at http://www.thedailyretort.com.

We Need to be More Than Merely a Collection of Needs
As Americans we spend a lot of time and energy satisfying various appetites. Many people enjoy a good meal, a good glass of wine or breathing in a fine cigar on occasion. Taking those appetites or needs a step further, it’s safe to say that many married, consenting adults enjoy the emotional and physical benefits derived from sex with their significant other.

The Importance of Giving - Part 2
The first installment of this series addressed how most people consider their financial donations to church or charity as TRANSACTIONAL – similar to a purchase or exchange of goods. However, in God’s eyes that type of giving is TRANSFORMATIONAL, since it works toward broadening our perspective of others and reducing our myopic focus on ourselves. Here’s a first-hand example of a similar transformation I witnessed in my family.

The Importance of Giving - Part 3
“Money never made a man happy yet, nor will it. The more a man has, the more he wants. Instead of filling a vacuum, it makes one.” - Benjamin Franklin This is a great quote that succinctly sums up the problem with money - namely you can never have enough of it due to our human inclination toward greed and avarice. I believe that the only way to break the back of greed in your life is by giving away a portion of your funds.

The Importance of Giving – Part 1
I’m a volunteer member on the board of our local church, Potomac Valley Assembly – here’s the link (http://www.pvachurch.com/pwsite/index.php). Since I’ve got my MBA degree, the board selected me as treasurer. It’s an honor to serve in that role and there are some insights that I’ve learned over the years that have helped me and may help you regarding finances and giving. There are three basic aspects of wealth or money that are important, yet often overlooked.

Famous Physicist Stephen Hawking's Blind Faith in Science and Aliens
I know you should never start a written piece with a question, but I have to ask - why do scientists scoff at the premise of God BUT wholeheartedly embrace the idea of alien existence? It’s a rhetorical question because I get the fact that God can’t be rigorously tested via the scientific method; adequately measured; empirically observed or quantified via data gathering – I get that. But neither can the existence of aliens. I guess, all of those reasons that scientists postulate as a collective universal outcry to reject God, somehow don’t apply to the existence of extra-terrestrials.r

Mystery Solved, We Evolved From Little More than Beer Foam - Not!
I'll explain my sensationalized "beer foam" headline in a minute, but we need some background first. A recent article written at ScienceDaily.com, which appears to be based on a press release from a biochemist at Brandeis University, touts the following headline: "First Large-Scale Formal Quantitative Test Confirms Darwin's Theory of Universal Common Ancestry" http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/05/100512131513.htmrnr

Don't Let Your Own Funeral be the First Time You Enter a Church
I spent most of my Sundays growing up as a kid being dragged to some kind of charismatic church; a tent meeting or guest-preacher service. Mostly I was bored. Often I would sleep under the seats. Sometimes I’d smuggle in Matchbox cars and drive them along the curvey armrests of the pews. And other times I would hear.

Life, Liberty and the Pursuit.....
I got to thinking about the concept of “happiness” the other day and decided that I will no longer pursue it. Don’t get me wrong, the “…pursuit of happiness…” is very quotable, it sounds great and looks great on paper – especially when that paper happens to be the Declaration of Independence, which is where the phrase is found and was signed by our forefathers.
