The Soul means Self rnYou say, “I am John (the reader may insert his own name here)” However, John is the name of the body. Who are you in this? The Self is the Soul!rnWhere There Is Growth, Where There Is Feeling, There the Soul Exists For instance, if you tie pulses in a wet cloth, they’ll sprout, isn’t it? And if you tie pebbles in the wet cloth, would they sprout? No! The pulses grew. It means, there the Soul exists. In the presence of the Soul, the growth happens! The Soul Has Infinite KnowledgernThe Soul knows whatever is happening. It can understand happiness, unhappiness. Wherever there is knowledge and ignorance, there is existence of Soul there. rnHow do you tell if a person is doctor? This person knows surgery. He understands whether a person is ill or healthy, so he is a doctor. How do you tell if a person is engineer? One who understands whether a machine is ill or healthy, one who has such knowledge, is called an engineer. Similarly, Soul is such an element that has infinite knowledge and happiness (bliss) with it. If your leg pains, there is pain in this leg, and there’s no pain in this leg – who knows it? One may say, “Brain comes to know.” But who read the brain? In pitch darkness, if someone puts something sweet in your mouth and asks you, “what did I put in your mouth?” You would immediately say, “This is sweet.” One may ask you, “Oh! It’s sweet? You could see it?” You would say, “I came to know.” How did you come to know? You’d say “If you place it on my tongue, obviously I would know.” So, did the tongue know, or when placed on tongue, someone came to know? And if one asks, what all is present in this sweet? You would say, “There is cardamom, saffron, sugar is excessive, it is creamy.. Hey, there is clove inside! Clove should not be there, but it is present in this sweet, I know.” rnYou cannot see anything; then how did you come to know? One who knows is the Soul!! The Soul Is Like LightrnWe take another example. Let’s assume there is darkness in the entire room. And from one hole in the wall, a beam of sunrays comes into the room. In the area of that beam alone, we can see small, little particles floating in the light of the beam. So does it mean, there are no dust particles besides the beam area? Why can’t they be seen then? Only in that beam, the dust particles are properly seen. The beam of sunrays is the light, and the dust particles are the matter. The Soul too is like light. However, this (external) light does not know its self, it can only illuminate external things; whereas the Soul knows its Self and knows the external objects too. rnIn the external light, there is no happiness. In the light of Soul, there is infinite happiness – that’s the difference!! In this body, the Soul is in the form of the light of knowledge. Say, there are images of God placed in a room. Can you find them in dark? But the moment you switch on the light bulb, you can find them, right? It means in the light of the bulb, you are able to see the photo. Here, there are 3 things – You, light and the photo. Similarly, when the thoughts arise in mind, in the light of the Soul, you are able to see and know the thoughts.rnYou will say, “The person was thinking, the person was writing...” But after all, He is a Pure Soul, the knower of everything. The job of Soul is like that of a Supervisor. The Supervisor does not do anything; he only oversees whatever is going on. Likewise, it is the matter that does the doing part, the Soul only sees and knows all of it. You Doubt the Existence of Your Own SelfrnThere’s a beautiful quote written by Shrimad Rajchandraji in Atmasiddhi: ‘Atma ni shanka kare Atma potey aap, Shanka no karnaar tey, acharaj e amaap.’ meaning “The existence of the Soul is suspected by the Soul itself, this is verily a matter of immeasurable amazement.”rnYou yourself are the Soul. Yet, the ignorance of Self makes you suspect your own existence. It is the non-realized Self that suspects its Self. However, when a person starts thinking, ‘I wonder what the Soul is like? It must be like this or like that?’ the Lord appreciates this state as it is the fascination of ‘real’; you are striving to understand your real Self!! Essence of Human Life rnThe essence of human life is to realize the Self (Soul) and remain in Self. When you meet the Enlightened being, who is Self-Realized and has the divine power to enlighten others, He can make you realize your Pure Soul!!! With the grace of such Enlightened being, once you achieve Self-Realization, you will not have any confusion or doubts regarding the Pure soul, thereafter. Conclusion:rnThe Soul is an eternal element residing in every living being. The Soul is our own Self. However, we can realize it only when we attain Self-Realization from the Living Gnani, the Enlightened One. After Self-Realization, all our doubts regarding “I am Pure Soul’ get totally eliminated!!! The science of karma It is simply the science of cause & effect Karmas are the actions (causes) and the fruits of karma are its reactions (effects). The rules of karma are such that when you create karma, the resultant effect comes naturally and automatically. The resultant effect is something one has to go through; one simply cannot avoid it.
