30 Day Challenges...They DO Work!

When I initially agreed to do a 30 Day Blog Challenge, I had no idea how beneficial it would be. Eleven days into the experience, I’m finding it has given me a new level of discipline and focus that has far reaching benefits. It was during a private mastermind meeting with my clients that I first agreed to the Challenge. I was leading a discussion on the importance of short term goals to achieve specific results. The conversation geared around visibility.

Do You Have the Disease of More?

More money. More time. More love. More business. I want more! Never enough. Always more. Seems this is a condition that plagues countless individuals. No matter what they have it will never be enough. Not that wanting more is wrong, but if you are not happy and grateful for what you currently have, more of the "thing" still won't bring you happiness.

Success Is Not Always Convenient

Recently I offered an open, hop on the phone line, Q&A session. It was on a Saturday and I made myself available for two hours to answer as many questions about building your business as possible during that time. To encourage people to get on the line I announced the call would not be recorded. I also let it be known no opt in was required. Just show up and ask questions. Simple. A few things happened that I didn’t expect. One: the number of people who showed up was beyond what I thought the call would attract. Awesome! Two: the questions were fabulous.

WTF or WTG? What's Going on in Your Head?

Have you ever had one of those light bulb moments where something became incredibly clear? I had one of those moments this morning. My light bulb moment was this; to go from lukewarm to passionate is often as simple as changing one tiny thing… a letter of the alphabet. WTF or WTG? WTF = What the F&*K! WTG = Way to Go! One letter apart with a world of difference in the meaning and outcome. Here’s a real time example in my business.

Is the COVID vaccine the next experiment?

“Don’t get mad, get healthy.” This thought occurred to me when the most recent lockdown in our state was announced. Just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday, Oregon, like many states in the U.S., is on yet another lockdown. With cases on the rise, people are becoming COVID weary. Yet, regardless of how one feels, we have certain dictates we must adhere to. Additionally, we MUST take personal responsibility for minimizing our risks for complications should we contract the virus. Protocols…. Good or Bad rnr

How to Be a Featured Expert on BIG NAME podcast shows

I frequently get asked, “How do I get big podcasters to notice me? How do I get them to invite me on their show?” In a nutshell, you have to “earn” the right. What do I mean by that? Simply put, you can't expect the big names to notice you if you've not put any tracks down up to that point. To get noticed by big name people, you must be visible to them. https://youtu.be/L0AZ9Ai Lgo Visibility happens by blogging, posting on social media, writing articles AND getting on podcast shows.

Getting Through Financial Turmoil Due to COVID-19

This article was originally written in early March, 2020. Although the number of COVID-19 cases has increased, the essence of the article remains highly relevant. Over the last week we’ve moved into a “new normal.” “New normal”… what exactly does that mean? No one knows for sure. New normal depends on what your life was like before COVID-19. One thing is for sure… life has changed… a lot. Regardless of who you are, what you do, where you live, life has changed. To pretend that it hasn't is downright foolish. For all of us, it has changed.

The Trifecta Power of Virtual Book Tours

Long before my first book was published, I had dreams of being a successful author. Fantasies of making a great living from my writing filled my mind. I created a whole story about what it meant to be a successful author. The life I would live, the people I would meet, the opportunities that would appear out of nowhere. Like many unpublished authors, I mistakenly believed writing a good book was all it took to be successful. Little did I know that writing the book is the easy part. Yup! Writing the book is the easy part.

Virtual Book Tours for Indie Authors are Incredibly Powerful… when done right

Contrary to what many authors think, their greatest challenge is NOT writing a book. It's marketing and selling the book. That's the bad news. With all that's available with blogs, social media, podcast shows and YouTube, it’s now easier than ever to market and promote books. But it takes more than the availability. It takes strategy. Your Cravings Disappear on a Plant Based Diet

Food cravings are one of the main reasons people find it hard to start, and stick with, a plant-based eating protocol. Yet, if you can make it through the first few days, most people find the unhealthy cravings disappear to be replaced by healthy cravings. As one member of the Plant Based Eating for Health Facebook group said, “I’ve found out, the more I stick with plant based, the less I crave “junk food”, meat & dairy. I never ever thought I’d get to this point but here I am. Freedom!”

Don’t be a victim of your lifestyle choices... go plant based

“I’m diabetic,” my friend informed me after his doctor visit. “What type? 1 or 2?” I inquired. “Type 2. My doctor told me to lose weight and change my diet, but I’m not sure I can do that,” my friend said matter-of-factually. “I feel like I’m drowning in this. “Why?” I wondered aloud. “You can make changes.” “That’s so drastic. I’m set in my ways, including my eating,” he continued as if he was too old to change. At 66, I didn’t think he was too old. “What are the risks connected with diabetes?” I was truly interested.

The REAL Purpose of Podcast Interviews

Many experts think it would be great to book lots of podcast interviews in order to make a pitch. My response to doing this is… DON'T! Podcast interviews are not meant for you to pitch your stuff. They are designed for you to create value for the audience. It's really that simple. The more value you create, the more likely it is that audience members will visit your website, blog and social media platforms to learn even more about you. Blatantly selling on a show is, in most circles, a huge NO-NO! Don't do it. Create Massive Valuernr

Pro Bodybuilder, Zack Belknap, Thrives on A Plant-Based Diet

From the typical “bro jock” who always had a passion for the environment, Zack Belknap connected the dots about the hypocrisy of what he ate and being an environmentalist when he watched the movies Dominion and Cowspiracy. Growing up, Zack was a hunter and fisherman. Yet, it never sat right with him. He found he had to shut down in order to do hunt and fish. “When I was very young, my dad and I were hunting. On one trip, my dad skinned a squirrel for us to eat. It hit me hard. I just knew something wasn’t right,” Zack says with a strong hint of deep-seated pain.

COVID-19: Eliminate Underlying Causes That Put You at Higher Risk

As people continue to comply to, and put massive attention on, the guidelines of social distancing, washing hands, no hugging (humans), and “stay at home” mandates on the one hand, on the other hand (comparatively speaking) little attention is put on what we can do to minimize our risks for the underlying causes that increase complications, even death, for those who do contract corona-virus.

Are you a Victim or Victor with Plant Based Eating?

It has been said that we have two life timelines. 1. The chronological timeline 2. The quality of life timeline Often, the quality of life ends 10 – 15 years sooner than the chronological. For many people the last 10 – 15 years is filled with sickness, disease, arthritis, and cancer. There is scientific evidence that a plant based lifestyle gives a much higher quality of life to those who are committed to this way of life. Personally, I want the quality and chronological timeline to be the same amount of time. Giving Up to Get So Much Morernr

Plant Based Eating – Is it restrictive?

If you’re looking for a healthy, efficient and sustainable way to release unwanted (and unhealthy) weight, a whole food, plant-based eating protocol is likely the best you can find. When someone asks me what I’ve done to release 35 pounds in the last few months, I tell them I’ve gone plant based. The conversation usually goes something like, “Wow! I really need to lose X amount of weight.” When I ask how important it is to them, they usually say, “I’d do anything.”

What a hangover and a 10 mile run have in common

If you’ve been thinking of trying a plant-based diet and shared this fact with family and friends, there’s a strong possibility they’ve warned you of the dangers of eliminating meat and dairy from your diet. “Where will you get your protein?” is more times than not the big warning. “You won’t have any energy,” is yet another warning. They Don’t Know If someone tells you either thing, take it with a grain of salt. Why? Well, it’s likely they’ve never tried going plant based for more than a day. They didn’t commit 100% to the process.

Quit using the body-shaming discussion to avoid eating healthy

Body shaming. A hot topic and one we often have to approach with kid gloves. So much in fact, our fear of offending others may lead to disease, prolonged illness, even death. It’s one thing to accept our bodies as they are. It’s another to be in complete denial that excess weight can be incredibly unhealthy. This post is not about getting to a specific weight merely for external reasons, like fitting into the black dress that’s been hanging in our closet for years. Nor is it about losing weight so you can look great on the beach come summer time.

Cows will become extinct if we go plant based …. WHAT?!?!?!?

Ask someone why they decided to subscribe to a plant based diet and it will likely be one of three reasons. 1. Health 2. Compassion to animals 3. The environment. Although they may begin for one reason, often they find all three become their motivation over time. This was my experience. Initially, I began for health reasons. I had severe inflammation in my right hand. Deciding to literally take matters into my own hands, I gave it seven days to see if a plant based diet would help.

Can a Plant Based Diet Alleviate Food Addictions?

“I couldn’t possibly go plant based. I’m so addicted to sugar and meat it’s impossible to give these things up.” Food addictions are real, as are many other types of addictions. As with most addictions, it takes discipline to get through to the other side of the behavior. When I made the decision to quit drinking 35 years ago, it was not an easy decision. I was addicted to not only the alcohol, but the resulting chaos drinking contributed to.r

Plant Based Eating… Diet or Lifestyle?

Some people view plant based eating as a diet, while many of us view it as a lifestyle choice. For me, it goes beyond losing a few pounds. It’s truly about aligning my behaviors with my love of animals, my desire to be as healthy as possible and contributing to the betterment of the environment. Yet, there are those who only view plant based eating as a diet. In a recent post in a Facebook group I am a member of, a woman was debating the diet benefits of a plant based eating compared to calorie counting with a friend of hers.

People WILL mock you for being plant based

Little did I realize when I made the life changing decision to go plant based, at some point I would be mocked by others. “When do you plan to eat meat?” This question was recently posed when I ordered my meal choice at a restaurant. Authors: Why you should NOT learn how to market

Not all authors should spend time learning how to market. That may go against conventional wisdom, but it's true. In reality, some authors are not willing to put in the time or effort to do what it takes to market their books. Some get downright nasty towards those of us who are making money with our writing, blaming everything but themselves for their lack of success in selling books.

Authors: Should you be selling in bookstores?

With the convenience of shopping from one’s couch or office, why would anyone take time to go to a traditional bookstore? Actually, there are many reasons. Readers of all ages love the experience of walking into a physical bookstore, grabbing a cup of coffee to sit down and read a few favorites before making a buying decision. However, massive bookstores are not always the stores of choices for today's book buyer. One reason is the closure of chains like Borders. Secondly, many prefer to shop at independent stores. Authors: Endorsements work… here’s how to get powerhouse testimonials for your books

3rd party endorsements work. An endorsement is someone else telling others how great your information is. Shocking! The vast majority of books make less than $100 a year

"The vast majority of books make less than $100 a year,” according to John Kremer, author of 1001 Ways to Market Your Books. Another book marketer says, "50% of the books published don't make even that much. In my experience, at least 90% of books will fail, maybe even 95-99%. Fail means the books earn less than $100 a year." I find this shocking and totally unacceptable. Why? Well for one thing, why would an author spend so much time writing a book that never gets read?

Why are some people so opposed to playing big?

Like many people, I belong to a wide range of social media groups. They run the gamut from business, spiritual, running, health, animal well being, and book clubs. More times than not, there is great information being shared by members. Discussions can be lively and often, push buttons. Recently, in one spiritual group there was a discussion on why some people feel the need to have a big impact and play big. As a proponent of people stretching themselves and giving things their all, I have often counseled clients to play a bigger game in order to have a greater impact.
