The "No-Follow" Tag, The #1 Way to Ruin Your Social Media Initiative

When surfing around the web, just like anybody else, I come across hundreds of blogs that peak my interest (sales, marketing, HR and entrepreneurship are what I surf around for). Upon visiting most of these social media forums, I notice that their platform is not friendly to the blogger. This form of social media "mean spirit" comes in the ugly form of "no-follow" tags. As soon as I see a "no-follow" tag, I cease to visit the site again. With the number of blogs out there, there is no reason to show a blog or social media platform that could seemingly care less about you.

Considerations Prior to Starting a Business

Can You Sell the Product or Service? What I mean by this is that can you get on the phone and actually "sell" the product or service in a convincing manner to the target individual(s)? Nervousness aside (all entrepreneurs are at 1st), a small business owner needs to be able to verbalize in a quick, concise, appealing and intelligent manner as to why someone should give them money for their offering. Are you willing to prospect?

Modern Marketing: Three More Terms You Must Know

Ezine websites - Ezine sites are article websites that cater to the nonprofessional writer and allow the general public to publish articles on topics of their choice. There are many advantageous reasons to write for these publications. One main factor is to get your name ranking highly in Google search terms, as most hiring companies, upon recruiting a marketing professional, will Google the applicant's name.

Increase Your Revenue with Good Management and Marketing

Good management When it comes to the success of an organization, management is always the first variable of the equation. A company could either have managers or it could have leaders. The former sends a company to bankruptcy court; the latter is painstakingly hard to recruit and cultivate, but life is hard and making money is just as so. For clarification, leaders are the individuals who make a difference in organizations by growing those under them, taking accountability for their success or failure and training their teams to become better than they.

Clues that You Should Start Your Job Search

Regardless of how unhappy they are, people are always afraid to move jobs. Though the odds of success may be higher at another company, it is the uncertainty that clouds their judgment. I have seen candidates wait out an impending lay-off just to keep some glimmer of hope that it may not come. If you work hard enough and become very good at what you do, you should feel comfortable moving to another company. It's worth the risk, if you make an educated, carefully considered decision.

How to Write a Resume for the Job Boards

Write A Resume for Both Hiring Managers and Search Engines Upon approaching the formulation of their sales resume, many job seekers write the document only considering the needs of 1/2 of their targeted audience. The goal of writing your resume geared towards both the human editor and the job search engines (Monster, Hotjobs, the Ladders, etc.) is to significantly increase your career reach and networking with less administrative work.

3 Best Management Tips for the Entrepreneurial Minded Leader

When I started my company, for the first few years I worked alone. I was used to a daily rhythm in which I would wake up early and sit in front of the computer in relative quiet and began to take pride in my self-reliant, autonomous nature. Then, it came time to hire someone else. I began reading management book after management book prepping for the impending employee I was going to hire.

How To Make The Most Of An Incoming Sales Lead

For any sales professional, receiving a call out from "of the blue" from an unknown, incoming lead that is already interested in their products or services can brighten a day. After all, obtaining this lead did not involve any hunting. Tailoring Your Resume For Marketing and PR Jobs, Part 1

Social media, marketing, and PR jobs at good companies that promise solid upward growth potential are few and far between. In order to position yourself as strongly as possible, your best bet it to tailor your resume so that the hiring managers find you, not exclusively the other way around. Most resume tips are, by nature, subjective. One hiring manager may see something on your resume and want to call you right away, while unbeknownst to you, that very thing may be what turned off the last person who reviewed your CV.

Gaining Wealth From a Career In Sales Part 2

What do I perceive to be some of the more lucrative jobs? Here are two: Selling Into the Government - selling into the government is an entirely different beast and not many sales representatives can do so. Government sales representatives, regardless of what they are selling are put through very heavy scrutiny from their potential buyers. This type of selling gets so mentally taxing that not many wish to or are able to stay at their respective sales jobs and venture into selling to corporate clients.

People Aren't Perfect - Neither Are Job Offers

So, you're interviewing with a small business and it comes time to discuss your compensation package. How are you supposed to know your value on the open job market? In all actuality, that's very hard to know, because human beings naturally value their own worth much higher than the market is paying. Think of it this way: your favorite shirt may be worth $100. You have worn the shirt 10 times, yet you would not sell it for the paltry-seeming sum of $120. To someone else, it's a nice shirt, but there are other shirts out there. Make sense?

The Staffing Industry - A Quick Glance

A part of me feels that it is disturbing that, upon writing about my industry, I was nearly inclined to include a section that contains the phrase "What to watch out for when working with recruiters." It would be quite humorous if a garden hose company had to stress ethical behavior towards those who are filling a pool. Though, if you have fooled into taking a job, the blame is not always on the person who sold it.

Interviewing Help For Executives

Management and executive interviewing is what I do for a living. Owing a retained, executive-level staffing agency, I am constantly interviewing sales and marketing executives within nearly every industry and across all major U.S. metropolitan areas. I have seen a few mistakes commonly made by job seekers at this level as well as some key areas for improvement that are not being worked on and that could easily be remedied with some further interview preparation and learning.

Negotiating Salary: Don't Talk Yourself Out of the Job

Although I have a very keen eye for spotting a fair amount of negotiation tactics, I find negotiation, in most circumstances, to simply be a hindrance to the normal flow of business. For a moment, tally up the opportunity cost that you have seen wasted by others who want to negotiate arbitrary, meaningless things like the cost of pens at Staples. You would probably have a good chunk of change if you summed up all that wasted time and energy.

Stand Out as Someone to Hire Now

Skimming employment and job seeking articles on the web, I came across the quintessential, "It's About Who You Know," article. This thought process is a give up, stop working and accept your status methodology. Moreover, this type of thinking is not only unhealthy, it breeds jealously towards those who are successful in their career. In business unless you can make somebody money, they don't care if you're the son or daughter of royalty. Do you ever hear of the Google CEO hiring his cousin? This is nepotism at its best and the shareholders would have his neck, not to mention his job.

Tips for the 1st Time Manager

When I was leaving college, just like many, I thought that managing people meant that you made it in your career. Instead, now I think that managing people is one more step towards another career goal. My job consists of dealing with managers and executives at companies both big and small, companies both domestically and internationally. I obviously have my own style, though like the management of some others as well. I have dealt with bad managers too. Though, after a while, in my business you can usually sniff them out and you avoid working with them.

Career Persuasion Factors That Could Leave Chipotle and Dunkin Donuts In The Poor House

The better looking have better careers. They receive better grades in college, they receive higher paychecks and are the first to be promoted. Why is this true and to what extent do looks play a part in our ability to persuade and get ahead? Finally, what can you do about it? Why Are Looks So Important to Us? It comes from when we are infants. Within seventy-two hours after birth, we are prewired to appreciate beautiful people and thus stare at them for longer periods of time. Naturally, infants will look at and analyze smiles more than frowns.

Hiring Tips for Small Businesses

Two Truths to Market Your Small Business

1. Real ethics are an absolute necessity. In today's work environment, there is a sense that a person should do anything it takes to close a sale. With this mentality, ethical lines are often blurred by desperation to make a sale, and many are willing to offer anything and everything necessary to close the deal. Pitching a client a song and dance, and over-promising the results that can be delivered may work in the short-term, but what happens in the long-run?

Does Your Manager Have Leadership Skills? How Do You Know?

There is a big difference between managers and leaders. Managers are those who come to work, make sure all subordinates are getting the necessary tasks done, then leave at 5:00, never to really make a difference. Managers sustain. They fail to upgrade their teams. They see no return in helping those under them grow personally or professionally.

2 Sticky Parts of Business That Block Entrepreneurs From "Job Freedom Status"

"Job Freedom Status" (n.) The point at which an entrepreneur can freely decide betwee TiVo and Captain Crunch Crunch Berries cereal or going to work -- without any job-, marital- or financial-related ramifications. It seems that all entrepreneurs want to reach a status that provides them the freedom to do the above. Though, from what I have witnessed time and time again, a significant percentage of small business owners, for whatever reason, don't want to do task x, task y and/or task z despite the clear-cut fact that X, Y, or Z will get them to Crunchberries vs. TiVo.

Molding The Young Entrepreneur Into A Leader

There will always be those who follow the arrogant, however, they're so unsure of themselves that these are the types of people that you do not want on your team, and whom you specifically want to play against.
