To the Brave Women of Hollywood: Thank you.

To the women of Hollywood - women like Alyssa Milano, Gabrielle Union, Ashley Judd, Lady Gaga, Queen Latifah, Kesha, Mo’Nique, Mira Sorvino, Teri Hatcher and many others: We didn’t realize how much we needed you to speak up and share your stories of sexual abuse, trauma and harassment. But now that you have, we see the ripple effects of healing that you’ve inspired. Thank you. You have ushered in a new paradigm for women, where we’re telling our stories too.

Empaths and Self-Healing

As someone that has provided healing support and readings to empaths for several years, I've discovered that not all empaths are alike. The way empaths process their empathic responses are different, and what they need to do to remain balanced mentally, physically and emotionally also vary. There is certainly some similarity in the very nature of being empathic, but I’ve been amazed at the unique ways in which empaths need to be present with their compassionate nature.

Eliminating the Internal Complaint Department

A while back my husband and I were in a class where we were asked to spend a day keeping a tally of how often we complained. I thought I was a pretty positive person so this exercise would be pretty easy to do. Oh my gosh, was I surprised to discover how often I was thinking complaining thoughts, though I wasn’t expressing them. I was complaining all right, just not out loud. We were also asked to notice our patterns of thoughts. Did we tend to complain about other friends, co-workers, politics, our bodies, our helplessness, injustice, past abuses, lovers, etc.?

Frozen By Fear

The reasons we are afraid are, in many ways, as unique as we are, and often need to be addressed individually. But let us explore the root of fear as it relates to healing.

What Works Well for You in Your Self-Healing?

Right now is the perfect time to consider what works well for you in your self-healing. As you reflect upon last year, perhaps you will want to take some time to think about what has brought you the greatest healing. If you do this, I suggest becoming a real observer of your reality. (Something I talk about in greater depth in the first chapter of my book, The Root of All Healing.)

Your Life Path and Self-Healing Are Entwined

For many years I thought my real spiritual work would begin once I was fully healed. What I didn’t understand was that my self-healing was my spiritual path. It wasn’t that I needed to get better and then I would have the energy to devote to my spiritual awakening. It was the other way around. Discovering my unique spiritual gifts—and learning how to apply them in every area of my life including my healing and awakening—was the journey. In fact, much of my awakening has taken place as I have been focused on self-healing!

The Healing Freedom of Truth

A teacher once said to me, “Most people are lying to themselves most of the time.” “Yah, right,” I thought as I blew off the concept as nonsense. However, that kind of statement has a way of sticking with you, and I couldn’t get it out of my thoughts. “How often am I lying to myself?” I wondered.

Sound Your Feelings

My healing took a huge leap forward when I discovered that my own sounds could heal. So one of the first skills I teach new sound healers to develop is the ability to sound their feelings. Why?

How to Approach Self-Healing—Are Positive Emotions Enough?

Knowing how to approach your self-healing process can be a real quandary, particularly if you don’t have a favorite and specific energy healing modality. You can spend a lot of energy just figuring out how to think of self-healing in a general context. Recently, one of my readers asked a really great question regarding a general approach to self-healing. It was significant enough that I sent it to several of my colleagues for their consideration and comments.

Healing When Your Senses Are Failing You

One of my readers asked how she could regain her hearing. Since many of us loose acuity of one or more of our senses throughout our lives, her question could be significant for many of us to consider. Physically, how one regains hearing is as specific as how one lost it. There are dozens of physical causes for hearing loss and other sensory deprivations. Your healing approach is likely to be dependent upon the physical cause.

What Can I Do to Experience More Energy Overall?

As I’m writing a response to this question today, I am feeling tired. I’m not entirely sure whether I’ve taxed my body with what I’m currently healing or the planetary alignment is tugging on my energy. Fortunately, I’m feeling emotionally stable, though many years ago, emotional upheaval was the greatest pull on my energy.

What Can You Do About Depression When You Are Healing?

Depression underlies many physical conditions, either because it was part of the cause of the illness or because you are feeling the pressure of your physical limits. While my book, The Root of All Healing wasn’t intended to be a book about alleviating depression, as I began to answer this question, I realized how much of it really does speak to natural approaches to addressing depression. In a sense, it has to, because if you are healing the root cause of your illness, the root cause of your depression is part of or contributing to your physical and emotional challenges.

Energetic Roots of Back Injuries

One of our readers wants to know about healing back injuries. Many, if not most, of us have injured our backs, so we know how debilitating it can be have back pain. Before we look at the energetic roots of back injuries, let’s take a look at the prevalence of back injuries that occur. Metaphysical Considerations for Healing Teeth

What intrigued me about this question from one of my readers is that if indeed the inquirer is asking about teeth, as opposed to gums or nerves, many of us have some misconceptions about bones being rigid and permanent once we become adults. If they are rigid and fixed, we might wonder if there is anything natural we can do to heal them. First let’s look at what bones need physically in order to be healthy and then we’ll look at the metaphysical nature of decaying teeth.

Metaphysical Meaning Behind Osteoarthritis

The Mayo clinic offers us this definition for osteoarthritis: "Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis, affecting millions of people around the world. While osteoarthritis can damage any joint in your body, the disorder most commonly affects joints in your hands, neck, lower back, knees and hips.

Women’s Rhythms and Healing Autoimmune Diseases

Over the years I have met a number of people that have been challenged by fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and MS. The vast majority have been women. Those seem to be the most common conditions I encounter with people, and I wondered if that was reflective of who I attract or rather universal. So I did some research. First, I explored some statistics and clinical information, then I meditated to discover if there is a common emotional and spiritual root.

Is It Harmful to Speak About Negative Thoughts? Does that give them more power?

The way you speak about your negative thoughts is where speaking about them can actually give those thoughts power. Consider entering into this imaginary scenario with me. See if you can imagine your negative thoughts as a person in the room with you. You can give them a personality, a name, a form of some kind—whatever it takes to make them seem like something other than you for a moment.

What Can I Do to Get More Sleep at Night?

Insomnia challenges so many of us. I remember nights lying in bed thinking about everything I thought just had to be done, sacrificing my health and my rest to my busy mind. Resting is a natural state, but isn’t it interesting how many of us at some time in our lives have found it to be a state so difficult to experience? For those of us that live in cultures where achieving is revered, it can be difficult to accept that action and achieving are only half of the human equation for mastery as human beings.

Quieting the Mind Through Sound Healing

It has frequently surprised students when I suggest that sound healing is as much, if not more, about quieting the mind and listening as it is about making sounds. Many of us can make sounds, but we access the sounds that have the ability to heal from the well of our silence.

Metaphysical Meaning Behind Osteoporosis

Whenever I meditate on metaphysical roots, I encourage you to do the same. What you get for yourself might have more meaning for you personally, and there may be nuances in your own intuitive and psychic insights that could make a significant difference for you. Here is a definition for osteoporosis from the U.S. National Library of Medicine: Osteoporosis occurs when the body fails to form enough new bone, when too much old bone is reabsorbed by the body, or both.

Metaphysical Meaning Behind Thyroid Problems

Breathing Meditation for Centering and Self-Healing

One of the first things you need to do when you are choosing to fully engage in a self-healing practice is to quiet your body and mind, bringing your body into a relaxed state that allows healing to occur. Getting to this relaxed state is the challenge and the opportunity. As I discuss at greater length in my book, The Root of All Healing, you cannot heal by will alone. In other words, you can’t make healing happen. You open to healing by allowing it to happen.

Reversing “Incurable” Chronic Conditions Through Self-Healing

If you have an “incurable” condition, you may be asking yourself if there is any possibility that incurable conditions can be reversed. The journey of self-healing is about discovering the power and the path within you. If you have read my book, “The Root of All Healing,” you know that when I was faced with MS, I decided I was not going to live with that forever.

Moving Through Resistance to Healing

You want to heal so much. You are making positive changes in your life. You have decided to be completely committed to your health, but nothing is changing. You are up against some kind of resistance, but you don’t even know how to define it. You just know it is there. What’s happening? This is one of the most frustrating moments in healing. If you meet that resistance often enough, you might find yourself giving up healing entirely.

When Healing Doesn’t Happen

This morning, as I was meditating, I had one of those special moments of awakening. Quieting the Mind to Assist You in Your Healing

In your healing journey, you may have heard about the importance of quieting your mind in order to receive intuitive insights and guidance to assist you in your healing. But if you have never meditated before, the thought of doing so can be overwhelming. And if you have ever sat down to meditate, only to become agitated and frustrated, as you experience the turbulent chatter of your mind and a body that it not used to being still, you may not be anxious to utilize quiet contemplation as a healing approach.

Discovering Your Inutition for Self-Healing

Someone recently asked me, “As an intuitive, how do you make decisions about what medical or healing care to receive? When I’m not feeling well or I’ve had an injury, I just go to the doctor. How do you figure out what to do?” No one had ever asked me that question. I really had to think about it. I made an agreement with Spirit many years ago that I would continue to strengthen my sound healing gift for the service of others. In return I expected that when I needed healing or medical help it would be obvious to me and the right help would be there at the right time.

Intuition—Pathway to Wellness

Intuition is one of those elusive concepts that many of us know we should be using to enhance our opportunities for healing, but often, don’t quite know how to access. I remember a friend that had been a meditator for many years asking me how he would know when his intuition was speaking to him. I was taken aback. I had assumed that because he had been an active meditator at one time in his life, that he would automatically be open to and recognize his intuitive wisdom, but that was not the case.

How to Set Clear Healing Intentions That Work

It is your responsibility as the receiver of other people’s prayers to set the intention for prayers and energetic forms of spiritual healing that are in alignment with your own your clear desire. That means your intention needs to be very clear. A clear intention is dependent upon how you feel spiritually strong. Are you someone that visualizes, hears or feels things easily? Do you get strong impressions that are more like knowing something? Most of us have one or two means of spiritual perception that are strongest for us.

Before you grab your paper and pencil, I invite you to become very still for a moment and allow yourself to reflect on how you will feel in your body when you are well: —Perhaps you will feel flexible in your body or have more vitality.r

How Do I Heal My Stress?

This wonderful question came from several of our readers, and this one really struck home with me. I was once the queen of stress! Perhaps some of you feel that way, like you are or have been kings or queens of stress in your own life. When you have come to a pinnacle in which you are quite certain that you know stress intimately well, it is time for a retreat. I mean—stop the clock, no responsibilities, no one to take care of or answer to, no excuses, put the brakes on your life—retreat.

Chronic Illness—I Just Want Someone to Tell Me How to Fix It

I was at a party recently where I was telling someone about my book. Not everyone is enamored with the concept of self-healing and taking full responsibility for your healing journey. In this case, the woman I was speaking with said out loud what I believe a lot of us really want but don’t admit. She candidly admitted, “I don’t really want to figure it for myself. I want someone to tell me what is wrong and how to fix it.”
