Get Rid Of Anger Before Looking For A Job
I get comments and inquiries about how to successfully look for a job. Most of the people who contact me do not focus on what they want. They are often ANGRY! They’re angry at themselves, the world around them, the economy, etc. It’s as if any place, person or idea is a target for a job seeker’s wrath. I can’t do much, as a counselor, for anyone who is concentrating their energies on being MAD. I can listen, but not to offer suggestions to get “un-mad”. From my perspective,

Yes, I've Had Gaps In My Employment History....What Can I Do About It?
There is not a single person who has not had SOME gaps in their work history. Anyone who says differently is someone who has forgotten their beginnings or doesn’t want to talk about their employment gaps. If you, as a job seeker, wants to come to terms with these gaps, what are you to do? My advice, as a career coach is to write out what you have done recently while being unemployed. What you are doing now is a measure of what your values and interests are. For example, if

Can't Define Your Job Goals, Use Your Own Private Eye!
Here’s how your own private detective, (private eye), can help you decide and define your job goals. Start here. Ask a good friend or family member to actually follow you during a day or two of your normal life. No, not into a shower or a bed, just waking hours please! What's Really Stopping You From Finding Your Next Great Job?
What’s Really Stopping You From Finding a Great Job? Here are my ideas as a career coach about how people stay stuck in not finding a job that utilizes their values, interests and skills. 1. It’s often because of low self-esteem. No one yet has devised a self-esteem meter, nto measure exactly what good self-esteem is. One measure, though, is to be sure and proud of what you’re good at. 2. Some folks lack job goals. Others inflate what they can do, while others flounder by t

Ready, Set, Go...Get Your Job Goals In Place
Ready, Set, Go—Get Your Job Goals In Place! What does it really take to set a job goal? Here are my two most important ideas. One is to know yourself well. Two is to know what your transferable skills are. If you’re willing to take any job, that is not a good job goal. (We all know that, I think). If a job seeker takes just any job, it can be that the need for economic survival is paramount. If it’s not about survival, then what is it about? It might just be laziness. Some

Having Fun On A Job Search
Having Fun In a Job Search Most job seekers don’t think of finding a new job to have anything to do with fun. I think it is most often thought of as a stressful event. What A Career Coach Can Or Can't Do For You
This article is directed toward anyone who is looking for a new job, facing downsizing, ready to retire, or of any category of job seeker. My definitions of what a good career coach can or can't do for you. They are: 1. Coaches can become your friends. They can be friends of a kind that you can tell your secrets to and not fear recrimination or judgement about you and your decisions. (Becoming a personal friend is not what we frown upon or promote as career coaches). 2. Car
