Generally, one prefers to live alone over being with someone, for going with the latter stands a risk of conflicts and clashes, tensions and disappointments in our life. But do you know, in living alone with no concrete goal to follow, there’s a big likelihood of our life going astray?... as one tends to dance to the tunes of inner whims and fancies when one has no one on his head whom they are answerable to. Also, being alone, one is quite susceptible to catch the disease of self-righteousness. On the other hand, when we are with someone, we develop the art of dealing with people. And in the process, we develop several virtues that make us better and harmonious human beings. Even if clashes and conflicts, tensions and disappointments happen, if we have the right guidance, then these very challenging situations go a long way in making us realize our mistakes and helping us break those mistakes for our good as well as others’. So, conflicts not only groom us and shape us to live a life free of conflicts, but eventually, they inspire us to take on the path of liberation too. Therefore, Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan, the Enlightened being, advises, “Do not look for solitude. This is because the mind will ring all kinds of bells in solitude. So remain where there is a crowd. Solitude is necessary, but only sometimes. There is solitude for as long as there is some peace.” He further emphasizes, “Rather than practicing solitude, it is better to be in a crowd. If there is a collector in a crowded train and your foot falls on his foot, he will keep saying, ‘Please, please’. This happens because of the crowd. Where else will such humility arise? It arises only in a crowd. All qualities arise in a crowd.” Param Pujya Dadashri further explains, “There are factories that purify pig-iron and from which they make large jewelleries. Those jewelleries have small burrs on them. To remove these burrs, they throw the jewellery in a ‘tumbling barrel’ and turn on the power. As the electricity drives the motors, the barrel turns! And as it turns the jewellery collides, as a result of which the burrs break off. This is how Nature’s tumbling barrel is turning. It is constantly breaking off all our ‘burrs’ (our mistakes that don’t allow us to live life happily) and everything will come out nice and smooth.” So, remain in the crowd, and most important, choose the right crowd to be in!rnThe ideal crowd for someone asking, ‘Can we live alone to live life happily?’ is a group of like-minded people, intending to pursue Brahmacharya as their goal of life, led by the Enlightened One!!! Yes, if we are seriously considering staying single, then one must adopt the goal of Brahmacharya. Param Pujya Dadashri has in very strict words, cautioned against being in relationship with someone without marriage, “People are happily enjoying sex that is not rightfully theirs and that is why they bind a very strong knot of suffering of many lives. Illicit sex is a violation of all the five major vows given by the Lord. In that, you commit violence, you tell lies, you are openly stealing - it is a daylight robbery, then, abrahmacharya is definitely there and the fifth violation is parigraha (possession) - abrahmacharya is the biggest parigraha. The Lord says, there is liberation for the one who indulges in rightful sex (between a married couple), but there is no liberation for the one who indulges in illicit sex. These people do not understand much. They are like a stray animal that is always looking for food and tries to get it from wherever it can. They will look for sex from wherever they can get it. rnThere are very few people who have an understanding of the importance of brahmacharya. As long as they have not tasted illicit sex they are relatively safe. As soon as they taste it, they go wild. This does not suit us. Our Hindustan has such spiritually developed people. We are all here for liberation.” Brahmacharya has been accepted by the whole worldrnWhile ‘Brahmacharya’ popularly means ‘morally guided celibacy’, its ultimate meaning is to reside in our real Self i.e. the pure Soul, an abode of eternal bliss! And the first step towards achieving this ultimate Brahmacharya is Self-Realization, that puts us on the path of liberation. Today, we have amongst us the Enlightened One, who within just two hours, graces us with Self-Realization and makes us taste the bliss of the Soul. Later in his company, we also gather the right knowledge that helps us practice celibacy with correct understanding! When the enlightenment seekers sit in the presence of the Enlightened One, their minds, intellect, ego, etc. remain riveted there only. There, the mind does not jump around or wander; it stays still. And you get to experience happiness that is full of bliss! And while you experience this bliss, you automatically wish that may everyone in this world experience this bliss. Thus, to answer your question, whether we live alone or with a family, it is necessary to be with the Enlightened One, so that following his words, we can progress on the path of liberation that yields eternal bliss.
