Yes! Our staple food, that we eat is very much responsible for how aware we are, how sharply we can think, and how quickly we can grasp the knowledge provided to us. It might not exactly control how we think but it controls our ability to think and understand the process. Let’s have a look at certain more general points: 1) The relation of food with awareness: Food that we eat turns into ‘brandy’ (that which produces a toxic effect on a person's awareness) in the body. These affects the awareness. Heavy or excessive food decreases spiritual and mental awareness. 2) The relation of food with the energy of understanding: a) The one who eats fruits only is the best of all. The one who lives on fruits (falahari) has tremendous energy of understanding. b) Eating grains is a pure vegetarian (excluding eggs, and potatoes) then his energy of understanding is of a much higher level than other people. One’s energy of understanding starts to decrease when one eats potatoes and root vegetables. c) The one who eats eggs, but not other non-vegetarian foods has better energy of understanding than other non-vegetarian people. d) And the non-vegetarian foods, the ones who eat animal meat are the lowest in this order of human beings.
