We come across various situations in our daily life like, ‘I don’t have enough to support my family’; ‘My daughter is not getting married’; ‘What will become of my son?’; ‘What will happen if this work does not get completed?’ and many more. How do we handle such situations in life? Is it possible to get things done without worrying? Thinking vs. Tension vs. Worry When there is an issue at hand that needs to be solved, thinking has to be done to a certain level. It is normal thinking as long as it does not distress you. Once it goes beyond that and puzzles you or troubles you, it turns into a worry. An above-normal thought is called a worry. To think about a situation or a problem as being everything is called a worry. Tension is similar but not quite the same as worry. The pull in tension is many-sided, whereas in worry you are totally involved in one issue thinking that to be everything. For example, if a person incurs a loss in business and if wealth is everything in his life, more important than his family, then worry takes hold. If on the other hand, his family was everything to him and he incurred a loss in business, he would experience tension but not worry. Worries Obstruct Work Nature tells us to put forth tremendous effort in order to accomplish a difficult task. But at the same time, we should not worry about it. By worrying, your effort will be fruitful. Through worries, you bind obstructive karma, which prolongs the work at hand. “When worries arise, know that your work will be spoiled. When worries do not arise, know that the work will be done well” – Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan Worries impede work. Worries kill a business. When you drive a car while worrying about your driving skills, you may cause an accident. If you worry while you are conducting your business, then you will make the wrong decisions. Worry has been the cause of ruin for everything in the world. The Root Cause for Worry When you worry, that is entanglement. Worries blind and fractures all right reasoning and knowledge. Worries arise because one believes that “I am doing all this.” He goes about thinking that he is the doer of all acts in his life. Because of this ego of doer-ship, he sets himself up for suffering in the form of worries when events do not occur according to his plans. Worrying is the greatest ego. The ego is at the root of all worries. It is better to oppose than to worry. The ego of opposition is less than the ego of worrying. God has said, “Oppose adverse circumstances, look for solutions, but do not worry.” Who is the Real Doer? The circumstances are the ‘doer’. All these scientific circumstantial evidence come together and an event takes place. So the control is not in our hands. Once the circumstances come together, the work gets accomplished. Man is dependent on circumstances, but he believes that he is doing something. The portion of whatever he ‘does’ is also dependent upon circumstances. When the time is right, all the evidence will come together. Until then, only attend to the present time. The past is gone, so why dig into it? The future is in the hands of scientific circumstantial evidence (vyavastit). So live in the present. Worry-Free Life The solution to stop worrying is to negate it and try to find a way without egoism. The other way is to become egoless. You can become egoless when you meet a Gnani Purush (The Self-realized One). He is the only one who can abolish your ego completely during a Self-realization ceremony. By applying the understanding you receive, all worries will leave. After this, you can do a lot more work and more efficiently than ever before because the entanglement is no longer there. You will be able to give full concentration to the work at hand. Those who live in the present have no worries.
