We all identify ourselves with the name given to our body. However, today, we shall try to identify, "Who am I really?" Are you actually a father, a husband, a friend, an engineer, a passenger or a patient? Are you really a father, a husband, a passenger? The truth is that you are a father in relation to your son. You are a husband in relation to your wife; a passenger in relation to a train. So all our identities, everything that we believe ourselves to be is dependent on someone else. So then arises a question, "Who am I really?" Every life's suffering, misunderstanding, confusion or difficulty stems from this lack of awareness of our true identity. Until the realisation of our true Self does not dawn upon us, we perceive ourselves to be the body or the name given to the body. But John (please insert your name here) is my name, which means ‘I’ and my name are separate, isn’t it? For example, when we say, “These are my glasses,” it means ‘I’ and the glasses are separate, aren’t they? So then, who am I? Hence, to believe that, ‘I am really John, I am this woman’s husband, I am a devotee, I am a lawyer, I am this boy’s father, I am this girl’s maternal uncle, I am forty-five years old, I am this man’s business partner’ is wrong. There are so many wrong beliefs that have set in. Only when we confront this question of, "Who am I?", can we dispel all wrong beliefs. Our true identity - our true Self - remains hidden from us as we have mistakenly identified ourselves with something that we are not. To Know ‘who I am and who I am not’ is called Knowledge of the Self (Gnan). – Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan. In reality, we are all an eternal Soul. This is our true identity. However, the knowledge that, ‘I am that, separate from all of this.’ has remained concealed behind the veils of ignorance throughout our countless past lives. It is due to this ignorance that we have been incapable of experiencing our own true Self. But thanks to the benevolence of the Spiritual Master (Gnani Purush), it is now feasible to attain a profound comprehension of our true Self through a scientific process known as the Self-Realisation ceremony (Gnan Vidhi) on the path of Akram Vignan. Thereafter, we have a firm conviction that, ‘Yes, I am really a Pure Soul only.’ Once we become aware of our true Self, that awareness always remains within us as we now have an unwavering conviction that ‘I am a pure Soul.’ Furthermore, this awareness continues to grow and deepen over time as we experience the innate, genuine bliss of our true Self i.e. the Soul.
