Is It "Just" Another Day?

It always cracks me up when I hear this phrase: "it's just another day". It epitomizes just how little some folks value the gift of another day. I'm guessing that were those same people to have some kind of terminal dis-ease, they'd change their attitude zippity-quick. I'm guessing that these very same people are the ones who rarely (if ever) take time to smell the roses or watch a sunrise or listen to children laughing in the park. The ones who dash around in a frenzy, and then wonder why they're so miserably exhausted.

Spring Cleaning: How Do You Let Go of The Junk?

On March 14th Daylight Savings Time begins. Shortly thereafter, in many parts of the country, Spring will begin to show its warm face. The daffodils will start popping up and the birds will get busy building nests for their next round of babies. Spring. That beautiful time of year when hope, like new growth, flowers anew. As a 'clutter expert', I've spent many a Spring day helping folks clear their clutter. That clutter is typically more than just 'stuff'.

The Genius Inside ~ Is It You Or Something Else?

The ancient Greeks believed that no artist, poet, musician was fully responsible for his work. Each was thought to be 'assigned' a daemon, a spirit that lived in the walls of the artist studio, and gave him access past the veils of this world, into the world of the gods. There, the artist could see the thoughts of the gods, thereby bringing them to light in his work. In ancient Rome, these same spirits were called Genius.

Shift Happens

The ability to reach out and ask for help isn’t something that comes easily to some folks. Pride keeps them from showing their vulnerabilities. Fear keeps them stuck. But when they make that little shift and see that the asking is as much a gift as it is a favor, everything changes. Fast. Dropping the facade of bravado and opening up to the magic of friendship is a pretty remarkable feeling. Once the facade is gone, a whole new perspective rises up and shines like diamonds on a sun-lit morning. In the blink of an eye, the feelings of ineptitude vanish, replaced by feelings of empowerment.

Selfish is Not a Four Letter Word

Most of us have heard at one time or other that 'selfish' is a bad thing. We're supposed to share. We're supposed to think about other people's feelings. We're supposed to sacrifice sometimes. Selfishness is something to overcome, not practice. I don't buy it. n There comes a point in ...

Your Words Are Your Wand: Choose Them Well

Seems to me that folks don't pay much mind to their words. You hear things every day that are proof of this. Stuff like: “My back is killing me.” “I hate my life.” “I wish somebody would kill that jerk.” “I'm dying to meet him.” “I'm sick and tired of....” Very common little phrases that most folks use with nary a thought of what they're actually saying. If you read those statements, and really pay mind to the words...it's pretty obvious how detrimental they can be to one's over-all well being. Some would argue, 'well, I didn't really mean it that way...'.

Three Bones ~ All You Need to Thrive

There are many these days who are moving into the “New Age of Consciousness”, using techniques such as meditation, affirmations, and visualizations to realize their dreams and live the lives they only once dreamed were possible. All these things are contributing to an ever-shifting mass consciousness, replacing the old world systems with enormous possibility. It's an exciting time to be on the planet, regardless of what the media wants us to believe. It's time for us to stop 'saving the world' as we once knew it. After all, is the world we're trying to 'save' even worth saving?

A Song for the Mother

DISCLAIMER: Before you read any further, please note that the non-use of caps and various other grammatical 'error' is 'on purpose'. Yes, I know how to write in proper grammatical form. But sometimes...artistic license is just more fun. Now you know. so there's this whole weird dynamic goin' on right now... not quite sure what it is, although there are those who offer up their varying theories ranging from planetary 'stuff' to seasonal 'stuff' to "gee. maybe we're just all tuning in harmonically to some female-moon-cycle" thing.

When Humor Hits the Road (How Do You Get It Back?)

Humor packed her bags and hit the road. She gave no warning. Didn't leave a note. Just up and left one sunny afte oon. Didn't even bother to close the door. Rude. Just plain rude. It's quite possible she ran off with The Muse. Not sure, but seems like they both disappeared around the same time. Probably lounging around some glamorous poolside, sipping Margaritas and having those cabana boys fan them with palm fronds. Little hussies. When Humor takes off, she doesn't mess around. She takes the whole she-bang with her.

Do You Have a Reset Button?

Most every electronic gadget today has a reset button. New homes have them on every electrical outlet, so instead of blowing a circuit, the outlet cuts off. You push the little red button, and PRESTO...it works anew. Blow dryers have them. Cars have them. Computers, cameras, phones, DVRs, you name it, they've got one. All 'for your convenience'. And then there's us. We have all these circuits we run on that, for the most part, we don't pay particular attention to. Especially the thoughts we think.

Perfect Flaws

There are few things more satisfying to this writer than getting comments from readers who express gratitude for my offerings. I'm NOT kidding. It's such a joy to hear from people who have been inspired by my meanderings, and to know that in some small way I'm actually helping. It's SUCH a thrill. Just this morning, as I was making my morning brew, I got to thinking about this new day and what I could to do to insure that I leave a mark. In other words, what can I do TODAY that will enhance someone's life, even if it's merely to bring a smile or nudge them over a hump.

Money As Energy: Is It Just More Love?

Several years ago while meeting with a woman who was interested in my Zen Gardens, she said something that struck me like the ol' proverbial frying pan to the head. She said: "Money is nothing more than love in an alte ate form. It's ENERGY. If you're struggling with it, you're looking at it from a very skewed perspective. Just think about it." Now, all these years later, her voice comes back to me. I hear it as clearly as if she were sitting right beside me. And yes, it makes me smile.

The Art of Make Believe

Remember when you were a kid and you played Make-Believe? Remember how easy it was to Make Believe you were a famous singer or an astronaut or a brilliant painter? You could sit in any room or under a tree or in your sandbox and actually BE that person. You'd see it all as clearly as if you were there...all the smells and sights and noises crystal clear in your pretty little head. Easy as making mud pies. Remember? I'm wondering why we stop doing it. I'm wondering why we think that just because we're 'grown-ups' we can't still sit under a tree and Make Believe. Just look at those words!

The Harm of Enabling

Regardless of our chosen field, or the manner in which we use your gifts, most of us have come across people in our lives who absolutely refuse to take responsibility for their actions, their situations, their own lives. It could be a family member, a dear friend, a co-worker, even a spouse. These are the people we may care most about, yet, even if we're the very best at what we do, there's no amount of “try” that will change a thing. You know it. I know it.

I'm Not Crazy ~ I'm Blossoming

You hear it all the time: "Use your head. Think it through. Make sure it makes sense." These age-old adages began before we were old enough to spell our names, yet somehow, our caregivers were compelled to teach us to use our brains and ignore our inner voices. By the time we were in grade school, our imaginary friends were no longer welcome in our parents' house. "You're too old for such things. Go play with your REAL friends." Such a pity. I suppose it was because our parents weren't as tuned in to their own intuitive spirits.

Whispers ~ The Often Subtle Sometimes Rowdy Voice Of Truth

It shouldn't come as a surprise that I'd be writing about intuition. It is, after all, part of the Magick that makes up our beautiful lives. I'm big on intuition, and over the course of my life (thus far!), I've 'remembered' just how to clue in and listen. I call them "whispers". Even though sometimes they're a bit more rowdy than that! For the past 2+ years, I've been working on a little book of the same name. It started out as a sort of 'exercise' for me to recall all the good in my life.

Let The Fires Rage

There is something to be said about using anger to move out of fear. Some people operate this way, mostly, I think, because it's worked for them. A person can only take fear for so long. Then comes that breaking point ~ that place where you've just had enough and you're not going to take it any more.

The Myth of Perfection

The search for perfection may very well be the largest obstacle to happiness. What is it that makes us want to be 'perfect'? Better asked, why do we think we aren't? Webster's dictionary defines the word 'perfect' as follows: - Lacking nothing essential to the whole: complete of its nature or kind. - Being in a state of undiminished or highest excellence: FLAWLESS. As a 'wordsmith', it often happens that I spend time with the dictionary on my desk, open and ready for my curiosity. I love words. I particularly love the art of eloquence.
