My name is Tim Holland and I am a relationships advice expert. I use this term lightly in that experts are not always right and nowhere near perfect. I am not here to be right or perfect. I am here to give and accept advice.
I am a 44 year old, single Christian male. I believe that people should use common sense and above all else do the right thing. I try to use these guidelines when writing for my website 'The Help With Dating and Relationships Site.' On it I give advice to men and women on how to handle the ups and downs of relationships. I also use the site to share some of my experiences in dating and relationships.
Though I have never been married, I have experienced most of the ups and downs everyone else has in relationships. And I have observed many others. As the seventh of eight siblings I have had no choice but to live and learn from experiences of my own and others. I grew up during a time when adults did not show much affection for each other and have seen relationships evolve and change over a thirty year period.
I have also learned from listening to others who have been in relationships. Everyone has a story to tell. Many are willing to tell it. If you listen with an open mind then you can learn a lot and use this knowledge to help others.
As a Christian I try to stay away from anything racy on my site and in my writings. I do believe that sexuality is a part of relationships, but avoid it in order to keep my site as morally based as possible.
Before creating my dating and relationships website I was (and still am) a freelance sports writer and author. I published my first book 'Sports Talk Radio is a Waste of Time (And so is this Book)' in October of 2010. It is a common sense look at the world of sports, how it has changed and where it is going, through my perspective as a player, coach, and fan for 40 years. I currently have a sports website called 'Sportscommonsense.com.' I have written sports blogs since 2003 and have gotten positive feedback from many members in sports media.
I am currently in the process of developing a motivational video project called 'How do you know if you don't try?' The premise is to present stories of famous people and what they had to overcome to become successful. Then relate it to the viewer by asking 'How do you know if you don't try?' The videos are open to everyone, but my main target is young people who are unsure of what they want to do in life. To motivate them so that they will get out there and try.
I came to Selfgrowth.com to help people imrpove their lives and to learn from others. To me the only reason why we should do anything on earth is to glorify God and help others. If I can help one person to find fullfillment in love and relationships and motivate one person to get out and try then that is enough for me.

Make Every Day Valentine's Day
Valentine’s Day should be every day in dating and relationships. Though it is nice that a day is set aside to celebrate love for someone, February 14 should not be the only day. As the song by the late Teena Marie says ‘365 is a year’ and that’s how much you should love your dear.

Dating and Relationships: The First Impression
One cannot begin dating or form a relationship with someone without first meeting them. First impressions are important. Though everyone may not remember the first time they met someone they remember the first and last impression that person made. So how should men conduct themselves, no matter what the setting, when meeting a woman for the first time? What I mean by no matter what the setting is that most of us don’t meet with dating and relationships in mind. We usually meet because of circumstances like work, school, social functions or just shopping.

First Date Advice For Women
Women the ball is always in your court when it comes to dating and relationships especially on the first date. You don’t have to date anyone that you don’t want. You don’t have to go anywhere that you don’t want. The more up front you are with the man before going out with him, the easier the first date will be. Some women do not ask men out. They think that by doing this they are being too forward. There is nothing wrong with asking a man out. Just make sure that he knows it is on your terms.

Advice for Men: Religion, Dating and Realtionships
Religion is a factor in dating and relationships. The degree in which you and your partner practice religion will have an affect on the entire relationship. So will your religious beliefs. It is always nice to have a relationship with God. When you let him be your guide life becomes much easier. It is also nice when you meet a woman who has a relationship with God especially when she has the same beliefs as you. No matter what denomination you are the main thing is not to have religion, but a relationship with God.

Dating Advice for Women: Religion and Relationships
Though not all women have a relationship with God those who do are much more open to worshiping him than men. In churches everywhere one is more likely to see women moved by the spirit of God more then men. And when it comes to relationships women are more likely to look for a man who has a relationship with God. If you are lucky, you will meet one. Maybe you will meet him at church. Maybe you will meet him on the job. Or maybe you won’t meet him at all.

Dating and Relationships: Woman Be Yourself
Women, be the person that you are in dating and relationships. Don’t be like someone you are not. Don’t change for the sake of a man. Just like boys try to emulate men that they think are cool girls do the same with women. I have five sisters so think I have a little experience with this. Growing up they admired singers and actresses just as we admired ball players and musicians.

Dating and Relationships: Be Yourself Man
Men, be you when it comes to dating and relationships. Don’t change who you are for anyone. It’ll eventually make you and the woman unhappy. Often, people try to emulate those that they are not. We see someone on television or in the movies that seems cool to us and try to incorporate some of their traits. Especially if those traits exhibited make them stand out. That’s why many celebrities are considered role models. They play a role, on and off the screen that others want to emulate.

Men: Treat Her Like A Lady
Men, we’ve heard this before when it comes to dating and relationships. But the truth is in order to gain a women’s love you’ve got to treat her like a lady. Doing this is not very hard. It simply means being nice to her. You can still be the ‘macho’, manly man and treat her like a lady. I’ve seen the toughest of men open doors for women, help them with their coat, write or text love notes to them or simply say ‘I love you.’ It takes a lot less effort to be nice to someone in dating and relationships than to be mean to them.

Women: Let Him Be A Man
The one thing that I hear from men when it comes to dating and relationships is that their wives, girlfriends or fiancé’s will not let them be a man. Women won’t let them have time to hang out with friends, go to sporting events or pursue hobbies. They won’t give men time to themselves. The balance between being themselves and doing what’s right by the women is one of man’s biggest obstacles in keeping a relationship strong. This is something that women must know. Men want you to give them the chance to be men.
