Can’t Please Everyone

As we go through life we will find there will be times when others are upset with us about what we have decided to do. We will find others have opinions about what we should be in life. We will find there will be others who want us to do what they believe we should do. When this happens, there is tension between us and the other person. We may give in and do as they wish but the right direction to go isn’t always to do what they want us to do.

Worldly Possessions

If someone asked us to sell everything we had and give them to the poor, would we be willing? Are the things we think we can’t live without really worth living for? We easily get upset when something in the house breaks like the dishwasher or the Internet is down. When we run out of our favorite snack or beverage, we quickly run to the store to replace it so we aren’t doing without. However, are the things we feel we need all the time really the things God wants us to have?

Be In The Moment

Days are not just made up of mornings, afte oons and evenings. They are moments of time in our lives that we choose to do certain things. We work, we spend time with our family and friends, we worship. These moments in time are not to be taken advantage of. Each thing we do is something we can do intentionally or we can just do it to get it out of the way.

An Understanding Heart

It is really useless for us to worry. It is useless for us to worry about other people. It is useless for us to worry about tomorrow. It is useless for us to worry about the things of the world. We can’t change things or people by worrying about what may or may not happen. We really can’t change things or people by any actions or words we may take or say. So to worry about things out of our control is really a waste of time.

It Takes Time

Sometimes we have situations where things are not going our way. We may have someone who isn’t doing the thing they should do. We may have others who are having difficult times and are continuously complaining to us about it. We may have issues at work or things at home which seem like huge problems and we have a hard time thinking about anything else.

Letting Others Down

When we have to let others down easy, it is usually because of something that happened they weren’t expecting. Something that happened out of our control and we have to tell them what they were hoping for didn’t come through. It is not easy to let other people down and give bad news to them; however, there are times when we have to tell people things they don’t want to hear.

When We Pray

Many times we pray asking God for certain things. We may ask He give us strength to handle a situation. We may ask He help us in the area of our finances. We may ask for His guidance in what to do in a relationship. We may ask that He help us have more patience or a more caring attitude with a particular person. 1 Peter 5:10-11 “In his kindness God called you to share in his ete al glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. All power to him forever! Amen.”

Wake Up Worrying

Most mornings many people all over the world wake up to worry. They wake up and begin to think about all the things they have to do. They wake up and begin to worry about how the bills are going to get paid. They wake up worrying about their health or their family. We really need to make a decision to wake up without worry, without wishing we could go back to bed and without weariness.

By No Other Means

When we are facing situations we feel seem out of our control and we have tried and tried to figure out how to handle them, we tend to go to an alte ative means to search for a solution. We may feel as if we have lost hope and there is nothing left but drastic measures. We may feel there is no one else to turn to so we have to handle things ourselves. We may feel embarrassed about our situation and afraid to talk with someone else so we look for ways to fix things and cover up the issue at hand.

Something We Dread

We all have things that we really don't want to do or things that we are just not looking forward to. Rather than dreading them and thinking about how we can get out of them, we need to look at the bigger picture of how we can use them as opportunities to serve God and others. Missing out on something because we don't think we are going to be happy about doing it is no excuse for not doing it.

We Can Plan

Although we all may not have a systemized planning program where we log things into a binder that we have to do and scratch them off as we do them, we all plan. We all have ideas about what we want to do and take some actions on things we have to do. We have to plan for obvious reasons in order to eat, to go somewhere and to do just about anything we do.

Who Can You Depend On

Whenever we are going through rough times, we need to be careful of what we do and who we depend on. Whenever we have had a bad day and just want to unwind, we need to make good choices about what we do to help us feel better. Whenever we are searching for that special something or someone to make us feel better, we need to be careful about what we begin to depend on to get us through it all.

What We Put First

It’s funny how we run around every day working for what we believe we need, when God clearly tells us to seek Him first and He will give us everything we need. Why do we continue to look everywhere for the things we think we need when all we have to do is go to Him? Do we really believe we can live for God when we put other things before Him? Matthew 6:33 “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”

From Bad to Worse

We all have problems. We can’t really get away from them. We have troubles at home, issues that come up at work, financial problems, etc. Once we get over one problem, another problem seems like it is just around the corner. We pay off one bill only to find we have another to pay. We get over one miscommunication and someone else gets upset with us. We can’t escape problems. They are just a part of life. Psalm 25:16-17 “Turn to me and have mercy, for I am alone and in deep distress. My problems go from bad to worse. Oh, save me from them all!”

When We Choose To Hide

We are creating problems in our relationships, with ourselves and with God when we choose to hide something. We are hurting relationships because we are not building trust and honesty. We are hurting ourselves because we are more than likely going to live in a world of guilt and distraction trying not to get caught. We are creating problems with God because we are not living as He requires us to.

Morning, Noon and Night

We often see others who get so wrapped up in what they are doing they forget about everything else and everyone else around them. We can get wrapped up in our thoughts. We can get wrapped up in our work. We can get wrapped up in our health issues. We can get wrapped up in our money situation. There are many daily distractions which can cause us to temporarily forget others and God because of what we are dealing with in the moment.

Give Back The Day

Some of us may think back on yesterday, last week or even last year and wish we could take something back. It may be a bad decision. It may be something we said or something we did. It may be something we just wish we had done differently. We all have regrets and we can all think back on something we would change if we could. But we can’t. We can’t change the past.

Are We Up For The Test?

Judges 2:22 “I did this to test Israel – to see whether or not they would obey the Lord as their ancestors did.” When we look back on history, we see so many examples of where God allowed certain things to happen to His people to test them and strengthen them. The people of Israel had to put their faith in God to leave Egypt where even though they were mistreated, it was the only home they knew. However, they left in hope for a better life, for a promised land.

When We Lose Focus

Ever tried to focus on something but no matter how hard you tried your mind continued to drift off to something else? The distractions and thoughts in our minds alone can keep us from getting things done without any other influences such as other people, noises or other interruptions. Focusing on something or someone is not an easy thing to do but we can discipline ourselves to be better at focusing so our minds don’t wander off to something else.

Why We Suffer

We all go through times in our lives where we feel like things are just not going the way we had hoped. We have financial problems, relationship issues, career changes or health challenges. We know, however, these things will pass and they are only temporary. But as we go through them, we have to wonder why things happen to us like they do.

Be Slow To Anger

There are times when we have a disagreement with someone, we feel so strongly about being right and we are so sure we are not going to ever hang around with them again. We feel whatever the situation, we are done with them. We are going to disassociate ourselves from them and move on. However, as time passes, our feelings aren’t quite as strong and we may forgive them. We may begin talking to them again. We may restore that relationship again and find out that we really missed their companionship.

It’s Just a Matter of Time

Everyone gets busy with their own things to do. We all have priorities and spend time doing what we feel is important throughout the day. We make our own decisions whether we are going to work, if we are going to exercise, if we are going to have a good attitude about things and if we are going to spend time with God each day. Matthew 6:21 “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”

Call of Duty

How quickly our lives change and our thought processes change as we experience situations in our lives. The loss of a loved one or a close call of a dear friend quickly makes us realize how short life is and can be. Also, there are times when we are hit with a rather large blow about our health, finances, family situation or career. We may have a sudden change in our routines in these areas which cause us to think about life and wonder why these things happen.

We sometimes we wish we were that knowledgeable in the subject and may get motivated to learn more about it. We may buy their books, subscribe to their emails or follow them on Facebook or Twitter to learn more about what they know.

Get In Line

We have all waited in line for something. It is neither always easy nor fun to wait in line but, we believe, it is usually worth the wait. While we are in line waiting we probably grow weary. While we are in line waiting we possibly get bored. While we are in line waiting we may get anxious or even give up. However, if we desire what is at the head of the line, we wait in line until we get what we want or need.

What’s Right

It is so common to think about what we need or what we don’t have. We may spend more time dwelling on things we think we have to have in life rather than being happy and satisfied with what we do have. The same is true with what is going wrong in our lives. We hear other people ask us what is wrong more than we hear them ask us what is right in our lives.

Done There, Been That

Why is it we keep going back to places and situations we know are wrong in God’s eyes? We have heard the saying “been there, done that” but sometimes we keep going back and repeating bad mistakes. These mistakes come from our own desire to do wrong. These desires come from our past of what we have done or seen that seem fulfilling to us at the time; however, these desires will cause worse things to happen if we continue to give in to them.

Make Room

Most of us go to the store on a regular basis to buy groceries, clothes and other items. We have to go back and replace what we own because they either wear out or we run out of them. When we arrive home we have to make room to put these new things. This may mean moving around some things. It may mean throwing out a few items. We may even have to give away or sell some things to make room for the new things.

Give Up Our Old Ways

When we try to hang on to our lives, we are trying to control the things and people in it. We need to realize that we have no real control over anything or anyone but ourselves. We have instructions how to live the best life in the Bible. We are instructed turn away from our self, take what we have and follow Jesus. We are to give up our life and the control we want to have over it and allow God to handle everything and to work through us.

Letting Go Of The Insignificant

We all have situations come up where one thing is more important to one person than it is to the other. There are times when there are misunderstandings and we don’t always know the whole story. Other times we make things that are somewhat unimportant blow up into something really big that divides a family or a church. Psalm 119:143-144 “As pressure and stress bear down on me, I find joy in your commands. Your laws are always right; help me to understand them so I may live.”

We Have To Be Willing

How can we be serious about doing God’s will when we aren’t willing to change? We think every day or once a week at church about getting serious for God and making a difference. We have a revelation that we are going to do better and we are going to be better for God. However, we get caught up in life with the things going on around us and we soon forget we made a commitment to God. Psalm 51:12-13 “Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. Then I will teach your ways to rebels, and they will return to you.”

Can We Be Counted On?

We all have people who we can count on. Some we can count on for showing up late everywhere they go. Others can be counted on for making excuses or blaming others. Then there are those we can count on for being too loud and saying the wrong things. Although we tend to see the negative in some people because it may stand out more, we really need to look at what positive traits they have and focus on them.

Approval Comes From God

When God gives us something to do, why do we need to wait for man's permission to do it? God can give us all the supplies we need. But we tend to go to man and say, look at this for me and let me know what you think. While we are waiting, we are doing nothing. If it takes a while to hear back we just assume the other person thinks it's a bad idea or not worth the effort.

No Need To Argue

When others disagree with something we said or did, we usually begin a conversation with them about what we did and why. Most times, the conversation turns into an argument. Most times, we always want to win the argument. Most times, no one really wins in an argument because both parties want to be right.

Psalm 119:4-5 “You have charged us to keep your commandments carefully. How We Say Things

It’s all about how we say things. Ever notice how two people can say the same thing but get different results? One person may say it in a kind and loving way. Another may say it in a loud demanding voice. When we want to make a difference in the lives of others, we need to be aware of how we say things. People are more apt to listen and do things for those who speak kindly. Colossians 4:5-6 “Live wisely among those who are not Christians, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and effective so that you will have the right answer for everyone.”

They will not do things we believe they should do. How we react to what others do is really all we can control. We need to remember their actions are not of God and we should set the example.

There are many brief encounters in life with others who we may only see for a moment. We have time to talk with them only for a few minutes about whatever comes to our minds. There are other times when we have meetings or encounters where we spend a few hours, or even a day with someone we may never see again. Then there are times when we run into someone we haven’t seen in years and have an opportunity to talk with them for a while. Hide and Seek

Proverbs 11:27 “If you search for good, you will find favor; but if you search for evil, it will find you!” We are all familiar with the game we played as children where we would hide somewhere while we waited and hoped we could escape to home base before the seeker found us. Some of us had really good hiding places where no one could find us and we would get home safely every time. Others of us would hide in places where we could be seen and found quickly.
